Jaffe & Asher Sheds Consumer Collection Unit

The Manhattan-based New York branch of Jaffe & Asher, LLP reported to the New York State Department of Labor that it intends to lay-off 75 of its 119 New York employees in February 2016. The firm also filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification notice that states the layoffs are economically based and a majority of those who will be laid off include paralegals and support staff. According to the firm’s managing partner, Gregory Galterio, the firm has decided to close its consumer collection department. Regarding the firm’s future business Galterio stated, “The firm will otherwise continue, as it has for 42 years, specializing in business litigation ranging from non-consumer collections and judgment enforcement to highly sophisticated corporate, transactional, and other commercial and civil litigation matters.”
